Today is the day for new hero Muerta to release in Dota 2, but when will the ghastly specter finally appear?
March 6, 2023 is the confirmed date for the release of Dota 2 patch 7.33, and it will bring a brand-new hero along with it. Muerta was first revealed at the end of The International 2022 with a brief teaser, and Valve has been laying it on thick with sneak peeks.

The biggest teaser is in-game, where Dota 2 players can pick up an exclusive offering in the shop before the horn. This item is unique for every hero, and they seem to be inspired by the Mexican tradition of ofrenda. The letters all have different icons and flavor text where the hero honors a deceased friend or relative.
There’s a lot of interesting lore revealed in the ofrendas, such as Pudge’s cleaver originally belonging to someone else and Grimstroke apologizing to his wife for her death. Fans have compiled a complete list of the letters here.
The second teaser is less flavorful but even more committed. Dota 2 community manager Wykrhm Reddy posted a new image of Muerta with a message written in Spanish. The tweet translates to “See you tomorrow. Good night. This is the strongest possible sign that Muerta will release sometime on March 6, but previous Dota 2 patches hint at an even more precise release timing.
What time will Muerta release in Dota 2?
Based on the release time of previous Dota 2 patches, Muerta will mostly be added to the game. around 4 to 5 p.m. CST,
Valve, Dota 2’s developer, is based in Bellevue, Washington, placing it firmly in Pacific Standard Time. The company tends to work on big patches all the way until the day of release, which for Muerta and Dota 2 7.33 has already been confirmed to be March 6.
Previous big Dota 2 patches, such as 7.32, are typically released around 4 to 5 pm CST, aligning with Steam maintenance hours on Tuesday. There’s no reason to suspect the 7.33 will be any different, though the only way to know for sure is to wait.
As with all other new hero releases, Muerta will get special draft conditions when added to the game. Players will not be able to nominate her for a ban, and both teams picking her will result in the faster picker getting to play her. This is so that Valve can get as much match data as possible for the new hero. New Dota 2 heroes tend to be overpowered or underpowered in pub environments upon release, so she will likely get some tuning less than two weeks after her debut.
